About

CHAPLIN, CT

I turn polymer science into successful product lines.

My work lives where molecular design meets manufacturing — formulating the additives that let electronics and semiconductor makers deposit copper exactly where, and how, they need it. I move fast from hypothesis to validated method to patent-ready result.

A Ph.D. chemist with structure–performance intuition and a full analytical toolkit, I also speak the language of laboratory safety and risk assessment, helping the compliance teams that decide what actually reaches the market — bridging the gap between the bench and the business.

Experience

2022–Present

R&D Chemist III

MacDermid Alpha Electronic Solutions — Shelton, CT
  • Design and formulate imidazolium-based levelers and additive chemistries for copper electroplating baths — including demanding through-silicon-via (TSV) fill, where deposition uniformity is non-negotiable.
  • Run full-factorial DOE studies (chain length × ring substituent) with response-surface modeling to drive additive performance to target — engineered, not trial-and-error.
  • Decode additive structure–performance relationships with GPC, NMR, FTIR, and electrochemistry (CV, EIS, CVS), turning mechanism into formulation strategy.
  • Author provisional patent documentation, converting bench discoveries into defensible IP.
2020–2021

Earlier Experience

Research Chemist & EHS Manager, Debogy Molecular — Farmington, CT (2021) · Analytical Chemistry Consultant, Clean Crop Technologies — Remote (2020)
  • Built FTIR and adhesion-testing methods to characterize antibacterial polymer coatings on surgical-implant substrates, and stood up Debogy Molecular's first EHS compliance framework — chemical-waste protocols and FDA-adjacent regulatory documentation from scratch.
  • Developed and validated UV-Vis spectroscopic methods to quantitatively track photochemical reaction progress at Clean Crop Technologies, including linearity, range, and robustness assessments.
Regulatory & Compliance Differentiator

Working fluency in ISO-9001 & IATF 16949 standards and quality systems as well as  — the regulatory literacy that lets R&D chemistry move cleanly into compliance-driven markets.
